The Cannons currently sponsors a youth Rugby program that consists four age groups: Under 11, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19.
Both the U11 and the U15 groups are co-ed touch teams. These teams are co-sponsored by Frederick County Parks and Recreation. At this level, we focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game. Games are played with 7 players from each side on the field. Scrums are uncontested and there is no lifting in the lineouts. Because there is not any tackling involved, there are no rucks. However, they do use a modified form of the maul.
U11 and U15 Rugby are played during the summer.
The U17 group plays full contact Rugby with some modified rules. They play with up to 11 players on the field, with full lineouts and modified scrums.
U17 is also played during the summer.
The U19 group is a men's full contact team. U19 Rugby is played by the same rules used for senior club play.
U19 Rugby is played in the Spring.
At present, we have no U19 women's team, but if there is enough interest, we'd love to get one started!
